Banshee Brass Quintet returns to Clonmel for a Culture Night programme celebrating women composers, including the world premiere of *Tilt* by Aliayta Foon-Dancoes. Finding a Voice presents Banshee Brass Quintet in the Upstairs Gallery of the historic Main Guard, Clonmel, as part of Culture Night 2026. Designed as a short, repeatable concert for drop-in audiences, the programme brings together music by pioneering American composer Florence Price and contemporary Canadian composer Aliayta Foon-Dancoes. The programme opens with Price’s 'Adoration', followed by the world premiere of 'Tilt', a new 12-minute work commissioned by Banshee Brass. Foon-Dancoes is a Vancouver-born composer, violinist and interdisciplinary artist whose work spans acoustic and electronic sound, visual art and performance. The quintet is led by Tipperary tuba player Adam Buttimer, who has a particular connection to Clonmel. His musical journey began locally with Banna Chluain Meala, and as a child he performed with the band at the Main Guard. He now returns to the same building as a professional musician with one of Ireland’s most exciting young brass ensembles. Banshee Brass has performed at the National Concert Hall, on RTÉ Lyric FM and at festivals including Killaloe Music Festival and Music for Wexford. The ensemble won ChamberFest Dublin First Prize in both 2024 and 2025. The concert continues Finding a Voice’s commitment to bringing music by women composers to audiences in Clonmel. Florence Price has a particular place in the festival’s history, having featured prominently in its 2022 programme, when pianist Samantha Ege presented Irish premières of works by Price and Margaret Bonds.
